Elizabeth Hill was born in 1942 and grew up in West Toronto  She attended Western Tech Commercial High School.  She married Jerry Hill at age 20 and they hitch-hiked to Winnipeg for a week and stayed two years.  They travelled by motorcycle  to Ottawa where Elizbeth studied a year at Carleton University as a mature student before travelling in Europe.

Moving back to Toronto in 1970, Elizabeth Hill ran as a candidate for the Communist Party of Canada in several Federal and Provincial election campaigns. In 1988 she was elected as a public-school trustee and served 18 years as a trustee in the City of York and the amalgamated Toronto District School Board.

Elizabeth adopted her nephew Daniel when he was two years old.  After her divorce, Elizabeth and her son Daniel combined with John Ooms and his son Richard as a family for twenty happy years, before John succumbed to cancer.

Elizabeth was a founding member of the Canadian-Cuban Friendship Association Toronto in 1977 and continues to be active in solidarity with Cuba.
